YouTube title & description checker

Check a title and description before you publish: length, the hook in the first 40 characters, the description's opening, links, hashtags and chapters.

Type a title to check it. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is sent.

How it works

These are the same checks Vid0 runs in YouTube Studio as you type. Titles work best between 20 and 70 characters, with the words that make people click in the first 40, since search and the home feed cut long titles.

The first 150 characters of a description show in search and above “...more”, so they should say what the video is about. Chapters need a 0:00 timestamp plus at least two more, and only the first three hashtags show above the title.

Questions

How long should a YouTube title be?
Between 20 and 70 characters. YouTube allows 100, but search results and the home feed cut long titles, often around 60 characters on mobile. Put the words that make people click in the first 40.
What makes a good YouTube description?
The first 150 characters show in search and above "...more", so say what the video is about there and repeat the title's main words. Then add chapters (0:00 plus at least two more timestamps), the links you mention and up to three hashtags.
Is anything I type sent anywhere?
No. This checker runs in your browser; nothing you type leaves your device. Signed-in Vid0 users also get AI-rated title ideas and description drafts.
