YouTube engagement rate calculator

A video's engagement, like and comment rates from its views, likes and comments. Runs in your browser.

Engagement rate

Like rate
3.6%
likes ÷ views
Comment rate
0.24%
comments ÷ views

Runs in your browser. Compare a video with your own recent uploads at a similar age: that tells you more than any general benchmark.

How it works

Engagement rate = (likes + comments) ÷ views × 100. It measures how the people who watched reacted, so it uses views, not subscribers. Likes and comments are public on every video; shares are only in the channel's own YouTube Studio.

Judge the result against your own recent videos at a similar age. Older videos keep collecting views faster than likes, so their rate drifts down over time, and longer videos and smaller channels tend to run higher.

Questions

How do you calculate engagement rate on YouTube?
The common formula is (likes + comments) ÷ views × 100. Some people add shares, which only the channel owner can see in YouTube Studio. Use the same formula every time so your numbers compare.
What is a good engagement rate on YouTube?
There's no single good number: it changes with niche, video length, channel size and video age. The useful comparison is with your own recent videos at a similar age, and with channels your size in your niche.
Should I use views or subscribers?
Views. Engagement by subscribers mixes people who never saw the video into the maths. Engagement by views tells you how the people who watched reacted.
Do brands look at engagement rate?
Many do, next to typical views. Put both on a free Vid0 creator page, with your rates and past collabs. Make yours.
