> **Short answer:**
> The best TubeBuddy alternatives in 2026 are vidIQ for an all-round toolkit, 1of10 and Vid0 for outlier research, ViewStats and Social Blade for analytics, Morningfame for small channels, and YouTube Studio's own A/B tests for titles and thumbnails. If you don't need bulk edits, a read-only tool can do your research without any permission to change your videos.

TubeBuddy is cheap and capable, so most people looking for an alternative aren't trying to save money. They want a different focus (ideas instead of tag tools), a simpler tool, or a tool that can't change their channel at all. This guide covers all three, using each company's own pages, checked on 18 October 2026.

## What does TubeBuddy do that's hard to replace?

As of October 2026, TubeBuddy's [pricing page](https://www.tubebuddy.com/pricing) lists **Pro** at $3/month ($32/year, or $49 for three years) and **Legend** at $15/month ($144/year, or $199 for three years). Keyword Explorer and Best Time to Publish are on every plan. Legend adds A/B Testing, Bulk Find, Replace & Append, Bulk Thumbnail Overlays, Scheduled Publish and Competitor Upload Alerts.

Those Legend tools are the hard part to replace. Changing a sponsor link across 200 descriptions by hand can take an afternoon; a bulk tool does it in minutes. If that's what you use TubeBuddy for, you may not want an alternative at all.

For A/B tests, though, you now have a free option: YouTube's own. Its [A/B test help page](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/16391400?hl=en) says you can test up to 3 titles, thumbnails or both in YouTube Studio on desktop, with watch time deciding the winner. Your channel needs advanced features turned on, and Shorts can't be tested.

## What does "write access" to your channel mean?

When a tool connects to your YouTube channel, Google asks you to approve specific permissions, called scopes. Google's [YouTube Data API scopes list](https://developers.google.com/youtube/v3/guides/auth/installed-apps) describes the main ones like this:

| Scope | What Google's consent screen calls it |
|---|---|
| `youtube.readonly` | View your YouTube account |
| `youtube` | Manage your YouTube account |
| `youtube.force-ssl` | See, edit, and permanently delete your YouTube videos, ratings, comments and captions |
| `youtube.upload` | Manage your YouTube videos |

A read-only scope lets a tool look. A manage or edit scope lets it change things.

TubeBuddy is open about which kind it needs. Its [help article on channel access](https://tubebuddyhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/53959064069267-Why-does-TubeBuddy-need-access-to-my-Channel) says linking asks you to allow "see, edit, delete YouTube videos, ratings and captions". It says TubeBuddy never acts on a video unless you ask it to, and that it has no feature that deletes videos.

That access is exactly why TubeBuddy is useful. A bulk edit, a scheduled update or an A/B test that swaps your thumbnail all have to change your video, so they need write permission. There's nothing unusual or wrong about it.

vidIQ is similar in a different way. Its [permissions article](https://support.vidiq.com/en/articles/3457281-what-youtube-permissions-does-vidiq-need-and-why-do-we-need-them) (August 2024) says it asks to "View and manage your videos and playlists" and that it never makes changes to your channel. Its newer [MCP page](https://vidiq.com/mcp/) says that when you sign in, an AI assistant can propose changes to your own videos' titles, descriptions, tags, visibility, schedule or thumbnail, and waits for your approval first. API key connections stay read-only.

## Are read-only tools safer?

Safer in one specific way: a tool that only has read access can't change your videos, so it can't be the cause of an unwanted change.

With write access, the trade-off is scale. A bulk find-and-replace with a typo changes every matching video at once. And any app you've granted write access to is a second route into your channel: if that grant, or the login that holds it, were ever misused, the permission covers your whole catalogue. Neither is a reason to avoid good tools. They're reasons to grant write access only to tools you actually use for edits, and to check your grants now and then.

Google lets you review every app with access to your account. Its [help page on linked apps](https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/13533235) shows how: go to [myaccount.google.com/linkedapps](https://myaccount.google.com/linkedapps), open an app's details and choose **Remove access** for anything you no longer use.

Vid0 is built the read-only way. When you connect a channel, it asks for only two scopes, `youtube.readonly` and `yt-analytics.readonly`, and it never uploads, edits or deletes anything on YouTube. Suggestions are things you copy into Studio yourself.

![Vid0 Title ideas inside YouTube Studio: five suggested titles scored 82, 80, 78, 78 and 77, each with a copy button, for a video with an A/B title test running](https://vid0.in/extension/studio-title-ideas.jpg "Vid0 title ideas in YouTube Studio, scored 82 down to 77. This video already has a YouTube A/B title test running, so Vid0 copies an idea for you to paste rather than changing anything.")

The cost is the flip side of the benefit: Vid0 can't do bulk edits or run tests for you. If you need those, keep a write-access tool for them.

## FAQ

### Is TubeBuddy safe to use?

TubeBuddy asks for permission to see, edit and delete your videos, because its bulk edits and tests need to change them. Its help centre says it only acts when you ask and has no feature that deletes videos. As with any tool you give write access to, review your grants regularly.

### How do I remove TubeBuddy's or any app's access to my YouTube channel?

Go to myaccount.google.com/linkedapps, find the app, open its details and choose Remove access. Google's linked apps help page walks through each step.

### Does YouTube have its own A/B testing?

Yes. YouTube Studio lets you test up to 3 titles, thumbnails or both on desktop, and picks the winner by watch time. Shorts and Premieres that haven't ended can't be tested.

### What permissions does Vid0 ask for?

Only `youtube.readonly` and `yt-analytics.readonly`, and only if you connect your channel. The Chrome extension reads the page you're viewing and sends Vid0 video or channel IDs, never your browsing history.

### What is the cheapest TubeBuddy alternative?

YouTube Studio's built-in A/B tests are free. Among paid tools, Morningfame Basic is $4.90/month (invite only) and Vid0 Creator is $12/month or $99/year as of October 2026. TubeBuddy Pro itself is $3/month.
